Patronage

In this series of original paintings I act as patron. I commission new works based on previously commissioned 19th century paintings. These retro-futuristic mashups resurrect antique paintings using a process that relies heavily on the Internet and digital technology. I use a computer to re-contextualize the appropriated original paintings, adding symbols, objects and ideas relevant to our contemporary culture. The works are then emailed to China where they are reproduced as oil-on-canvas paintings for a flat fee. This merging of old and new imagery, ideas and technology is a reflection of an ever-changing cultural landscape.
